Sometimes Things Happen For a Reason

Two days ago, I had a booksigning for "Romancing the Soul." I sold two books. The fact that I was trying to sell a "romance-type" book at a government installation didn't help things, but as the average sales at booksignings is three books, I really didn't pay it any mind. What I learned is to take my books to places that are more geared to romantic things. And that's what being a successful marketer is all about...hey...I'm learning as I go.

However, even knowing that, you would think that the low sales would depress me, but after what happened today, I knew that the day wasn't wasted...it was meant for me to be there.

One of the two books that I sold was sold to a lady by the name of Rev. Patricia Julia Dworske. However, I didn't know it at the time. We were sitting there, my two daughters and I, watching the other authors selling books when my daughter had a brainstorm. She said to me, "Watch this." When someone walked over, she turned to me and said, "Did you get the email from Richard Gere yesterday?" I knew what she was doing. I said, "Yeah, isn't he the sweetest thing?" She said, "And they want to put your book in one of his movies???" Well, I played along with her for the sake of being bored and my other daughter said that she was watching this woman nearby. She was listening to what we were saying, or so she thought. Well, about five minutes later, she walks over and buys my book! "See, Mom? That's what you have to do," my other daughter said.

Well, I know it was devious, but it sold a book...or so I thought.

Today, I saw the same woman. She told me that she knew my book wouldn't sell on the government instillation and that I needed to sell it at New Age-style places. She said she just returned from this New Age store and it would do very well there. I couldn't help myself, but I had to ask, "Do you read New Age literature?" She smiled and said, "I'm Rev. Patricia Julia Dworske and I'm a spiritual science minister...yes, I read all that stuff."

Well, I was floored. This woman was the first woman that I have ever met face-to-face who had the same beliefs as I do. "I'm a spiritualist, too!" I exclaimed. I was so excited. We must have talked for an hour about our beliefs, psychic phenomenon, spirits...everything. It was the neatest thing to be standing beside someone who had the same beliefs that I do! We promised to email each other to stay in touch, and I firmly believe that this is going to be a wonderful friendship ahead!

To find someone who you can "connect" with on a spiritual plane is just like finding your soul mate. I truly believe that it was meant for her to come into my life. For what? We'll learn that further down the road, but I know it has a meaning and I can't wait to find out!
